Beneath it were the words: "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish." It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.

在演講中,賈伯斯說,1970年代初期,里德學院的字體美術設計課程堪稱全美頂尖,校園中放眼所見每張海報與公告,都印著極為美麗的書寫體。他對此產生高度興趣,因此跑去字體設計課旁聽,學到什麼叫做襯線與無襯線字體,不同字體之間會產生的不同行距,以及要怎麼做才會讓好看的字體更趨完美。
在當時,對他來說,學習字體設計對於過日子似乎並沒有「實質」幫助,但相隔10年之後,當他開始設計麥金塔電腦時,卻發揮重要影響力,麥金塔電腦對於電腦字體的美學特別講究。
所以我對什麼都只看「跟考試有什麼幫助」的課程設計,感到深深的疑惑。

艾夫1980年代就讀英國諾桑比亞大學(Northumbria University)時,就曾2度獲得學生設計獎,是設計奇才。他2006年曾在演說中透露,他的目標「不是自我表現,而是讓某樣東西看來像是完全沒經過設計---因為它本應如此」。
