Beneath it were the words: "Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish." It was their farewell message as they signed off. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish. And I have always wished that for myself. And now, as you graduate to begin anew, I wish that for you.

在演講中，賈伯斯說，1970年代初期，里德學院的字體美術設計課程堪稱全美頂尖，校園中放眼所見每張海報與公告，都印著極為美麗的書寫體。他對此產生高度興趣，因此跑去字體設計課旁聽，學到什麼叫做襯線與無襯線字體，不同字體之間會產生的不同行距，以及要怎麼做才會讓好看的字體更趨完美。
在當時，對他來說，學習字體設計對於過日子似乎並沒有「實質」幫助，但相隔10年之後，當他開始設計麥金塔電腦時，卻發揮重要影響力，麥金塔電腦對於電腦字體的美學特別講究。
所以我對什麼都只看「跟考試有什麼幫助」的課程設計，感到深深的疑惑。

艾夫1980年代就讀英國諾桑比亞大學（Northumbria University）時，就曾2度獲得學生設計獎，是設計奇才。他2006年曾在演說中透露，他的目標「不是自我表現，而是讓某樣東西看來像是完全沒經過設計---因為它本應如此」。
